Ingredients
  

For the bread

  • 1 cup white granulated sugar or light brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk (vitamin D, whole, 2% or almond)
  • cup vegetable oil
  • cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark chocolate) Save ¼ cup for topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease your 1-pound loaf pan.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
  • In a larger bowl or using a stand mixer, beat the egg, milk, and vegetable oil until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips, saving a quarter cup for later.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan until about two-thirds full and sprinkle reserved chocolate chips on top.

Baking

  • Transfer the pan to the center of your preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for best results. Experiment with different chocolate types for varied flavors. Let the bread cool completely before slicing for cleaner cuts.
