  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Chocolate Chips

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chunks (180g)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture and beat until combined.
  • Gradually add the sifted flour mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Scoop out about 1½ tablespoons of dough and place them onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, until the edges are firm and the centers are slightly underbaked.
  • Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is well-softened. Avoid overmixing the dough to keep cookies soft and chewy. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
