  • 1 large egg, at room temperature Binds ingredients and adds moisture
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Enhances flavor

Dry Ingredients

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness

Final Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon milk Any kind, dairy or non, for moisture and richness
  • 1 and 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Provides sweetness and texture

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by chilling the cookie dough. Let it rest for at least 3 hours or, for best results, overnight.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is fluffy and well-combined.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat until everything is well blended.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  • Stir in the milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • Cover the dough tightly and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop out the chilled dough in balls, roughly 1.5 tablespoons each, and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake the cookies for 11-12 minutes, until the edges are set while the centers remain soft.
  • Press a few additional chocolate chips on top of the warm cookies if desired, and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Cookie dough must be chilled for optimal texture and flavor. Watch baking time closely to avoid overbaking.
