Brownie Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter adds moisture
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar, packed brings depth of flavor
  • ½ cup granulated sugar contributes sweetness
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature helps bind the ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract adds warmth and complexity
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour provides structure
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder enhances chocolate flavor
  • ¼ teaspoon salt balances sweetness
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda aids in leavening
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks (optional) adds extra richness

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare an 8×8 inch baking pan by lining the bottom and sides with parchment paper.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat or in a microwave-safe bowl. Combine the melted butter with both sugars in a mixing bowl.
  • Whisk in the eggs at room temperature until fully combined, then add the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda until just combined.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, checking for doneness at the 25-minute mark.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before lifting them out and slicing into squares.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs for smoother batter. Ensure the melted butter isn't hot. Do not overmix the batter after adding flour, and allow brownies to cool adequately before slicing.
