Instructions

Preparation of Brownie Layer

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, eggs, melted butter, and chocolate chips. Mix gently until combined, ensuring not to overmix.

Prepare the Pan

  • Line a 13x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Pour the brownie batter into the pan and spread it evenly.

Preparation of Cookie Layer

  • In a separate bowl, beat the butter-flavored Crisco with the packed light brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add vanilla extract, milk, and a large egg to the creamed mixture and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the remaining flour, kosher salt, baking soda, and cinnamon to the cookie dough. Mix slowly until combined.
  • Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate morsels into the cookie dough.

Assemble and Bake

  • Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer, spacing them out.
  • Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for about 25 minutes. The brownie layer should still be fudgy.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove from the oven and let the brookies cool completely before slicing.
  • Slice into squares or rectangles and serve.

Notes

For best results, measure ingredients carefully. Don’t overmix the brownie batter and allow it to cool completely before slicing.
